How Buying an SBR Works

Yes, there is paperwork. We walk you through every page of it.

The Kratos is a short barreled rifle regulated under the National Firearms Act. The process is slower than a standard rifle purchase, but it is well worn and we guide every buyer through it.

Step 01

Order your Kratos

Claim your build slot online. Your rifle enters the current month's allocation and the build clock starts.

Step 02

Pick your local dealer

Choose an FFL/SOT dealer near you who handles NFA transfers. We ship your rifle to them and coordinate directly.

Step 03

File your Form 4

Submit your ATF Form 4 with your dealer, including the federal tax stamp. eFile approvals have been running much faster than the old paper waits.

Step 04

Take it home

When your approval comes back, your dealer completes the transfer and the Kratos is yours.

SBR ownership is not legal in every state, and requirements vary. Check your state and local laws before ordering, and reach out if you are unsure: we would rather answer questions up front than refund an order later. Certifications and documentation guidance is provided with every purchase.

How long until my rifle ships?

Each month has a fixed build allocation with a 12 week build time. The gauge at the top of this page shows current availability; when a month fills, new orders roll to the next month's slot. Your Form 4 wait runs in parallel, so the paperwork rarely adds time beyond the build itself.

Why is a matched set worth it?

Most ARs are assembled from receivers that never met before final assembly, and the upper to lower play you feel is the result. Every Kratos upper and lower is machined, anodized, and hand fitted as a pair, then serialized together. The result is a rifle that locks up like one piece of metal.

Can I run a suppressor?

That is what the adjustable gas block is for. The mid length system on the 12.5 inch barrel tunes cleanly for suppressed or unsuppressed fire. We can also time and mount the muzzle device of your choice before shipping (additional fee for the device and work).

What if my state does not allow SBRs?

Contact us before ordering. Depending on your state, a different configuration of the same Tier 1 platform may be the right answer, and we build in multiple calibers and formats.

Who actually builds these?

Founders Shane Schrader and Tyler Berry, and a small team in Iowa. Tier 1 invested in its own CNC machining rather than assembling other people's parts into other people's receivers. Two years of development and three product iterations passed before the first rifle was allowed to ship.
